The Subcommittee on Children in Migration (of the NGO Committee on Migration) is organizing a hybrid Round Table to discuss the precarious situation of migrant and refugee children in New York City and to suggest possible solutions for alleviating the multiple deprivations they are experiencing.
The event, titled “Children in Migration and Access to Services in NYC: Obstacles and solutions towards a more inclusive and cohesive society,” will be held on 14 November 2023, from 11:00AM-1:00PM (ET) at the Salvation Army (221 E 52nd Street, New York, NY). Click here to view the event flyer, with links to the agenda, speaker bios, and registration.
The Subcommittee on Children in Migration is inviting community-based organizations (CBOs) working with migrant and refugee children, representatives of Academia, NGOs, and UN Agencies, with plans to listen to the voices of families in migration and their children. The event will also provide a space for discussion of good practices, ways to strengthen childcare services, and create innovative programs.
The increase in urban migration, due to a number of different causes (conflict, climate change, violence, poverty, etc.) must be considered not as an emergency but as a future “normal” trend. As a consequence, advocates and practitioners need to be prepared with a preventative approach, to build local structures for the promotion of a more cohesive and productive society, starting with the children.
This is an occasion for the Subcommittees of the NGO Committee on Migration to collaborate and share concerns and solutions. We invite you to help the Subcommittee on Children in Migration to add to the Resource List, a living document describing resources for those who work with and for displaced and refugee children and their families across various settings.
