In commemoration of International Migrants Day, the NGO Committee on Migration, co-organizing with Battery Dance, is sponsoring a special event “Dancing Across Borders: Bringing Communities Together through Dance.”
On December 14, in observance of International Migrants’ Day, at the Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations, “Dancing Across Borders: Bringing Communities Together Through Dance” was organized by the NGO Committee on Migration (Subcommittee on Xenophobia, Racism and Social Inclusion), the Canadian Mission to the United Nations, and Battery Dance, and sponsored by the Group of Friends of Migration, the Global Compact for Migration Champion Countries Initiative, and the Permanent Mission of Germany to the United Nations.
The event showcased innovative practices developed by the New York-based Battery Dance company, specifically focusing on their “Dancing to Connect” and “Dancing for Trust” initiatives which serve as effective means of integrating migrant youth into host societies. These programs present a refreshing alternative approach to healing across divides, using dance to bring communities together, overcoming xenophobia and racism by integrating migrant youth into receiving communities around the world.
A recording of the event is now available on the Battery Dance website, including the program, transcript, and summary. Click here to access the event webpage and click on the following links to access the concept note and flyer for this program.
