In the migratory process, there are significant challenges and traumatic experiences that often impact the emotional well-being of caregivers and, in turn, their ability to adequately support the development of children in their care. Educating and supporting mothers as essential caregivers is fundamental in fostering quality care environments and supporting child rights. This is especially relevant when considering the learning and development of girl children who are historically marginalized in many educational spaces.
Join the NGO Committee on Migration for a virtual parallel event at the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, focusing on the impact of forced migration on children’s development and the critical role of caregivers. This session will highlight key challenges and promising practices in addressing mental health, trauma, and social-emotional learning (SEL); while advancing the mandate to provide quality education for marginalized girls in alignment with the commitments of the Beijing +30 Platform for Action.
The event, “Empowering Migrant Mothers: Providing Critical Education Pathways for Young Children” will be held on Monday, 10 March from 10:30am-12:00pm (ET). Click on the following links to access the event flyer and register to attend on Whova (or join via Zoom).
